Ceol Connected presents The Far Field by DR. Thomas Johnston. A Show For All The Family
One Summer day in the little hills of Co. Monaghan, Lonán the farmer discovers a magical whistle hidden in a hare’s nest. Suspecting that it belongs to the fairy folk who live at the edge of his farm, Lonán decides that the whistle should be returned to its rightful owners. Join Lonán on his quest filled with magical traditional music, puppetry, and storytelling to the enchanted ‘Far Field’.
In 2015, The Far Field was commissioned by Scoil Cheoil an Botha in Co. Monaghan with support from the Arts Council’s Traditional Arts Commissions Award. The Far Field creative team were selected to participate in Branar’s Tiny Shows initiative in Autumn 2015. Described as spellbinding, magical, and a gentle and joyful performance for children, The Far Field embarked on an 8-venue nationwide tour of Ireland in 2017, supported by The Arts Council. Most recently, The Far Field was presented as part of the National Concert Hall’s Tradition Now Festival (October 2017) and at Tradoodle, Count Monaghan’s Traditional Arts Festival for Young Audiences.
