Malachy Robinson New work
JS Bach Concerto for 2 Violins BWV 1042 in D minor
Schubert Death and the Maiden arr. For strings. D810 in D Minor
Vivaldi’s first set of concertos, called L’estro armonico or The Genius of Harmony was the most influential work of its day, inspiring dozens of composers to turn out thousands of imitations in the first half of the eighteenth century. The first of 12, this is a highly original, imaginative work.
Malachy Robinson’s new work promises to be both interesting and fun!
Bach’s virtuosic Concerto for 2 Violins in D minor is a masterpiece and is the best known of his violin concertos. The two violins are in a veritable dialogue, with the orchestra providing harmonic and rhythmic background providing an overall amazing sound.
Schubert’s Death and the Maiden was one of his final quartets and makes for thought-provoking, refreshing listening – and what impresses most, as ever, is the sheer energy of the ICO’s music-making.
