The Mai, perhaps Marina Carr’s most conventional memory play, is one with light comedy and devastating tragedy. A beautiful, talented woman is deserted by her cellist husband. What will she do to bring him back to her, and how much of him is really hers when he does return? Four generations of mad, proud women, is a narrative of complicated love and loss. The ghosts of the past bring these strong women on their search for identity. Against a rich poetic landscape, Carr’s characteristic darkness, is fused with gentle humor in this story of a love that consumes and destroys. Presented by local drama group, Danger Mouse Productions.
