The Telephone Exchange

"Welcome to Hell sweetheart". Evelyn Delaney arrives up from the country in the summer of 1963 to begin her working life in a suburban Dublin telephone exchange. Dublin, she feels, is terribly different to Trim. Nora, Mags and Dympna have been working there for ages and seem very worldly. But it's only a year before she can save enough to go back to live in Trim to marry the man of her dreams. A shared obsession with the gorgeous JFK brings the four women closer and soon they discover, hidden secrets won't stay hidden all summer.

Niamh trained as an actor in the Gaiety School of Acting before turning her hand to writing for the stage. She is writer in residence with Marino since 2002 writing a theatre-in-education show for the Theatre Studies students each Christmas which tours Primary Schools in Ireland and the UK. This is the fifth play she has been commissioned to write for The Five Lamps Theatre Company.
