Dublin City Theatre Presents

Letter of a Love Hungry Farmer

THE LOVE-HUNGRY FARMER tells the story of John Bosco McLane, a bachelor who at 56 is, according to his own assessment, “past his best” and evidently still a virgin. McClane’s amorous adventures range from the cartoonish to the pitiful. He has tales of being led on and humiliated, outraged and offended, duped and shamed. Even the strenuous efforts of matchmaker, Dicky Mick Dicky O’Connor fail him!

Des Keogh’s adaptation of “Letters of a Love-Hungry Farmer” by John B. Keane opened at the Irish Repertory Theatre in New York in January 2003. It toured throughout Ireland in 2004 and was also at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where Des was nominated for the Best Actor Award.

Des Keogh has performed with all the major Irish theatre companies including the Abbey, the Gate, and the Druid. He has been with the National Theatre and the Royal Court in London and many major American companies. He has also appeared as storyteller and comedian at Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall in New York. He has toured one-man shows in the U.S.A., Australia and the West Indies. He has many television and film appearances to his credit. He has had a series of popular comedy shows with Rosaleen Linehan. They were both honoured with the Lord Mayor’s Award in 2000 for their “Outstanding Contribution to theatre and to the cultural life of the city of Dublin”.
